Mock Disaster

Last week the teacher in our school who teaches the emergency medical training classes contacted me to see if my classes would help her classes with their mock disaster final. I was hesitant at first and then thought it could be a really great experience. It was awesome!! I didn't tell me classes what we were doing before the day of since the other class couldn't know that they were being tested. Anyway, we headed down to our "disaster location" and put on artificial wounds, blood and bruises and then the students were given certain symptoms that they had to tell the emergency team. They then called the emergency class to come down and the acting began! It was so much fun!! My kids really got into it. They were yelling for help, crying, in shock and some were actually dead on arrival (that gave me the creeps a little). The first class that did this was my tech class and so not all of them are actors, but they really got into it. After awhile of saving the head of the disaster would go through and observe who was being helped and if they hadn't received enough attention she'd stick a dummy next to them for the emergency class to use to show that they needed to do recessitations (no idea how that is spelled). They did a pretty good job, but some of my students did end up "dying", which they actually thought was kind of fun anyway. Overall it was an amazing experience! I'll be doing this every semester from now on!!! Here's pictures of the gore!

Here's one of my student's who died. There's the mannequin for one of the EMT's to use to try and rescue him, but they didn't get there in enough time and so they killed him. So they put a piece of paper over him. So dramatic!
